Re: What type of Quests?

I think that fetch quests are common in rpgs for the same reason that killing people/monsters is common in many different types of video games -- it's very easy to do! What interaction could be simpler to imagine ( or implement ) than find the guy, shoot/stab that guy, he dies. Even just talking to ...

Re: Weather and Lighting Ideas

had to chime in on this one-- ultima 5 (1988) had phases of the moon, it determined where you would go when you stepped into a moongate.

Re:

Walking up to a giant black area is pretty weird though too. The image of the adjacent area could be greyed out, or hazy, so it's clear you are moving from one map to the next, while still providing a sense of continuity. I've thought about two things: I thought about your second idea but it wouldn'...

Re: What type of Quests?

This idea could get a bit complicated, but what if a guy escapes from a nearby jail and you can act as a bounty hunter to find him and bring him back to justice? Then what if he is innocent of the crime and he convinces you to help him instead of taking him back? This could lead to people in the loc...

Re: Cities

Having certain types of items be cheaper in one town ( because it is made in the area) and more expensive in others ( because it's a long way from where they make it ) might make things a bit more interesting, even if it's just a small difference. "We are still designing the towns and villages ...

Re:

He does make a good point: why pick a rogue class instead of a fighter class...the only difference i can see is you get a skill to start, but after a few levels that difference fades to insignificance. I think it's great that you aren't locked into a particular skill set when you make a character, b...

Re:

Yeah! great idea!

Love these ideas. Also in the Bestiary, maybe if you damage an enemy with it's vulnerability (Say you hit a slime with fire, and it is vulnerable to fire) it notes it's vulnerability on it's page.[/quote]

Re:

Since you mentioned it, how about making the 'dark side' actually tempting? In book 1 you don't get much reward for being evil ( or just selfish or chaotic, like han solo) and it doesn't seem like a legitimate alternative to being nice and doing everybody's quests ( which gain you lots of gold and X...

Re: A more interactive world for Book II.

I think more NPC's would be good, just a sprinkling of them walking between towns, or fishing, or working, for example. I enjoyed interacting with the non-store NPC's in book 1 and feel it added a lot to the intangible sense of place that role playing and fantasy in general rely upon to be convincin...

Re: Yet another idea for for Book II.

Your idea is a good one but it may be too different to mesh satisfactorily with the existing game. Maybe this idea could be used as an 'arena battle mode', in the style of AUTODUEL, for example, where you enter an arena in certain towns and fight in an exhibition match for money and XP. It might be ...

Re: Book II design question

I'm OK with leaving things the way they are. I'm also OK with putting in the 1-minute rule. It wouldn't change things much for me. The only time I've re-rolled is when I got a great item and died afterwards, then went back and got a crappy item. I re-rolled maybe 5 times, until I got something in th...

suggestions - some balance changes and things

Apologies in advance if this stuff has already been mentioned: skills could be balanced a bit: for example putting 5 points in mercantile gives a modest discount, maybe 10% on purchases, not enough to make that much of a difference except on the most expensive items. 5 points invested in hide in sha...
