Re: Book III Character and Map Editor
Incidentally, does it matter if I run the game through steam? I have no idea where the character files or map files are stored.

Re: What type of Quests?
Another quest idea: You would be facing a threat that grows larger or more powerful as time passes, maybe a creature that reproduces or divides or some such thing. You are not strong enough to kill it right away, but if you wait too long it will become too powerful and be very hard for you to kill. ...

Re: Female vs male character attributes and skills
You could make male characters have a +1 to fall on their own sword and it wouldn't bother me; it's 1 frickin' point, the smallest change possible. I support the +1 because I support anything that adds to the variety of characters you can make, even in this small way. We make games for the people , ...

Re: Regeneration of Monsters
I always liked the idea that random encounters with baddies were more likely at night, it just makes sense. Regeneration is not necessary but I don't like the idea of an area remaining totally devoid of monster activity for the rest of the game. Random encounters happen while you're sleeping, there'...

Re: Weather and Lighting Ideas
I gotta say I tried going back to ultima 5 but after 20 years (!) and just playing eschalon the interface was killing me. The graphics I can deal with but not the rest of it. How did I ever put up with that? True, but it didn't reflect the light use at night...if I recall correctly. (currantly repla...

Re: Weather and Lighting Ideas
I can just see it becoming a quest: "Your job is to take this polearm up onto windy hill tonight when the storm is most intense and poke it up at the sky-- the last two guys got killed by lightning but we've put some really nice leather grips on there this time so we think you'll probably be OK...

Re: suggestions - some balance changes and things
Yes, that's a good idea. If I had read the player manual I would have noticed the strength spellcasting issue but there really didn't seem to be a need to otherwise. I definitely appreciated the alternate-weapon swap feature for ranged attack. I agree with all of those, but I just have to mention: W...

Re: Female vs male character attributes and skills
Yeah I was thinking about my sister while writing the last post-- she doesn't really feel like she's doing anything unless she's doing 2-3 things at once, and she has twin boys. Multi-tasking isn't really part of most games, but if I had to squeeze it into the mold I would call it dexterity and conc...

Re: Yet another idea for for Book II.
I think the problem that could arise with a challenge mode is that your challenge mode character would be allowed back to the story version of the game with vastly enhanced items and attributes, ( depending on how long you spent down there ) and so to keep the story relevant all the baddies' stats w...

Re: Female vs male character attributes and skills
You win. Now you've got me thinking...it _could_ be that a person can't achieve the highest levels in both strength and agility, simply because their enormous size would prevent them from balancing easily or striking quickly. If you've seen sin city then you remember the fight between marvin and the...

Re: Book II design question
different difficulty levels add to replay value, which is always nice. random, or pseudo-random rewards add to unpredictability which also adds to replay value and to game quality in general. I have no programing experience or even knowledge, but if it isn't too hard, maybe the loot, trap, pick rand...

Re: Female vs male character attributes and skills
I can't imagine anyone having a legitimate complaint with this on political grounds, gameplay maybe but it's such a small difference anway. How many levels do you need to go up to render a +1 irrelevant? Not many. Why you picked dexterity is of interest to me though. As an encouragement to have fema...

Re: What type of Quests?
a few quest ideas: You could hear about an opportunity to perform a fetch quest or similar, but when you go find the person to ask for it, they've already given it to an NPC. This NPC could be found on his way to complete the quest and...well it's up to you at that point, you could try to bribe him ...
