Re: Short Blade advantage?
I think since Eschalon is closely skill-based with weapon that the weapon types should be considered based on the main skill needed to use them. If you swing something like a hammer I think you should put it under bludgeoning whether it has a spikey-ball or something else sharp like a Pick does. Unt...

Re: Short Blade advantage?
(now called Piercing Weapons which include Daggers, Knives, Picks and Spears) Picks are usually considered part of the bashing weapons group like hammers, aren't they? Unless you're talking about an ice pick which is just a metal dowel with a handle. :P Picks do pierce armor but I'd hate to see a p...

A history of CRPGs book
I just got this book for my birthday. It's pretty good, some of you may have read the gamasutra articles the author wrote about the different ages of CRPGs. This book is that idea more fleshed out with more games described. The first reviewer is spot on with the book's flaws, but I still enjoy readi...

Re: Just who is BasiliskWrangler?
Hey Jinx I'm like you. I want to know more about how BW goes about doing what he does. Since I make games as a hobby I'm also interested in the process. Basilisk Games doesn't have a devblog of any kind. Nothing like what Bay 12 Games does, for instance. Some artists discuss their art, the process, ...

Re: The Bard's Tale II
BT3 was the very first RPG I ever purchased with my hard-earned paperboy money, it was for the C64. It was awesome. I was a little annoyed by the bug that gave your party tons of experience for killing the first bad guy, I think his name was Tarjan or Mangar or something. Bumps them all up to level ...

Re: Ultima III!
That is awesome! Good work! Don't worry about the cheat, sometimes it has to be done and looks like not using it would have ruined the game more than using it. I don't like to play any games without at least an automap feature, because I'm NOT mapping things out with graph paper like the old days. S...

Re: Ultima III!
I just started playing Ultima III running on a JNES emulator. I didn't think the ultimas on the NES followed the PC versions at all, they were totally different games, were they? Or is it just the graphics and gameplay slightly different, story the same? Then I emerge into a new world.... Ah the un...

Re: Ultima III!
Are those individual chests each from a separate combat situation? In U5 all treasure was in the zoom screen dropped by individual monsters, and not the world map, I think. And there were rarely a ton of enemies on the world map. I spent a lot of time crossing and recrossing bridges trying to get br...

Re: Ultima III!
One is called Master Ultima and the other is called Ultima the Avatar Adventures. Yes I believe those are the two books I have. Yeah, Master Ultima seemed more like a standard spoiler. [hijack] Hey anybody know about the Ultima V remake being done with the Dungeon Siege engine? I have yet to try it...

Re: Ultima III!
Awesome! What I found interesting about Ultima IV-VI is that they spawned a whole new set of books concerning just them. People wrote fiction/spoilers about the games, not just cheat books. (Remember the cheat book for Bard's Tale III and how it told a story? Similar to that...) I found a couple of ...

Re: Ultima III!
First Ultima that I played was Ultima V - which was a little different than U3. But I had similar nostalgia moments whenever I play the old games. And yes the game was probably expensive. I still have the original catalog/pamphlet from my C64 version of Ultima V and it showed prices of $59.99 for ce...

Re: Hinterland
Well Steam sometimes does those trial weekends, but I've only seen it for TF2 which they're pushing. Perhaps they'd do it for Hinterland? The game is what it is: an Action RPG* with some town-building elements. I'm finding it fun and if you search around for the reviews you should get a good picture...

Re: Hinterland
Hinterland is now available on Steam. I'll probably get it soon, right after I see the reviews from real players.
