Re: Cartography - get rid of it
My suggestion probably wouldn't work if it was simply "jammed" into the game without thought. The skill system and the way classes use them would likely need some tweaking for it to function really well. And while I was indeed careful to include spells as possibly being combat related, it'...

Re: First Feature Cut
In DosBox you can set a flag for aspect ratio correction which works well with any DOS game so far I've played on it, without any need to modify any game resources. It appears the technique consists of repeating pixels across the vertical plane of the screen. This makes the screen area too "tal...

Re: Cartography - get rid of it
I like the cartography skill a lot. What I don't like is that investing points in it sacrifices character power for convenience. What I'd like to see in Book III is a division between combat skills and accessory skills. Eg. when your character gains a level he gets combat skill points as well as acc...

Re: Puzzle Designing
Obscure puzzles are a mess as the only way to solve them is brute force or by being the puzzle designer. Puzzles should be solvable by being clever - if a puzzle is intended to be solved by brute force, the combinations should be relatively few as you're testing his ability to solve it, not his pati...

Re: Creature element from Book I that I think wasn't in Book
Ugh, bombthugs from Book I were really obnoxious for melee fighters. I feel like they were one of the few truly unavoidable sources of damage in the game - no matter how much damage you do and how good your armor is, you're going to take a ton of damage. One could always say that a goblin carrying ...

Re: Missing Goliaths???
I also had a truly harrowing experience doing this quest and ended up on the forums, finding this thread. The bastard was hiding behind the ruined bridge. It was even the first of them saw. It wouldn't hurt having an extra or two of these beasts so missing one doesn't become such a problem.

Re: how to throw things? (and use powder kegs)
hi, it even says in the manual that one could throw stones at switches but not how. If you're playing on a PC, equip a thrown weapon (such as a stone) in your main hand, hold down SHIFT and left-click on your target. Left-clicking automatically attacks hostile things, but with friendly things and i...

Good game!
I bought Eschalon not long ago and have been spending much of my spare time playing it. I had much fun with it and managed to complete it with a Magick-User after about 21 hours of total play time. Considering the size of the "development team" I think the game is quite an achievement. I'm...

Re: red goblin key went missing O.o
I had the same problem. Turns out I forgot to loot the chest containing the key in the Giants' Village. I made a portal, left to retrieve the key and teleported back.

It looks like there's an iphone version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIYKgvQbbYY
Here's some more gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggHE9IBeyLY
Doesn't exactly appeal to me from that footage.

Re: Whats your favourate roguelike?
Ragnarok (Valhalla) was awesome. I don't want to think about how much time I poured into it.
I think a high quality Roguelike could do quite well. I think the Diablo series are pretty much light, real-time versions of Roguelikes.

Re: Most Anticipated Games of 2011
Batman: Arkham City
Star Wars: The Old Republic (if it doesn't get pushed to 2012)
Diablo III (if it doesn't get pushed to 2012)
Batman: Arkham Asylum is probably the best game I've played the last 10 years.

Ultima VII - Serpent Isle Ultima VII- The Black Gate Mass Effect 2 Baldur's Gate 2 Betrayal at Krondor Ragnarok (aka Valhalla) Ultima VIII - Pagan Diablo II The Dark Queen of Krynn Dark Sun: Shattered Lands Eschalon's status is still pending as I haven't finished it yet, b...

Re: Levelling a mage - What the #@!&$?!?!
Interesting POV. I've never finished DA:O either, though for different reasons. So far I'm enjoying Book 1 with about 9 hours played on my magick-user.
