Re: SKILLS: Trainer/Book availability
You're right! Thanks very much for the correction, I've added it to the list.

Mechanics
Hi everyone! Long time no see. Another exciting game release, huzzah :) The general impression I'm getting from the forum is that most game mechanics are identical to those in Book II, except in a few places that seem to be mentioned in the manual. I was wondering if anyone has looked into this. For...

Re: Preferred new skill training method?
Of course it's better to get 2 levels from a book than 1... unless you are also buying skill at level up. This is a simple issue of math: If you want 5 levels in a skill, the cost is: 5 skill points if you train at level up, THEN read the book. 4 skill points if you read the book, THEN train at leve...

Re: Why do you enjoy Rolling to determine character attribut
it's essentially impossible to opt out of that particular mini-game if (1) you don't enjoy it AND (2) you do enjoy optimizing your characters. It's not impossible to opt out... you just press F1-F5 and get a "pregenerated" character build. Using the pregenerated characters does not even r...

Re: Why do you enjoy Rolling to determine character attribut
That is a good answer. It should be pointed out that "rolling" and "rerolling" are not the same thing. Rolling originated with D&D and other tabletop RPGs. In that context it makes a lot of sense -- you are creating a character you are going to ROLE play; the stats are aids i...

Re: Seriously, I Just Don't Get Heavy Armor
The problem, as has been pointed out, is that "damage reduction" sucks. It sucks royally in comparison with other defense methods (Invisibility, Chameleon, heck, even the Dodge skill). It even sucks in comparison with simply building up your dodge rating... which you HAVE to do to build up...

Re: Malice Damage
The stun effect, AFIAK, just comes from the Sonic Blast spell or certain enemy attacks. That makes sense about the damage range -- come to think of it, I've never noticed really low damage rolls either. If the actual average damage is 75% of Max Damage, even before the bonus for a heavy blow, feat, ...

Also, Compress Atmopshere is tier 2, as listed, so it should cost 29 and not 49.

Yeah, they only seem to appear when you actually hit the nest, so as long as you don't ignore the dragonels you'll never face more than one at a time.

Re: Enemy Armor and ToHit Rates
Dodge is definitely better than pumping either armor skill. However, dodge is still ridiculously bad -- while it is theoretically possible to get Dodge into the 90's if you spend almost 30 levels worth of skill points on it, for the vast majority of the game it won't even be as effective as a Chamel...

Re: The Orakur are WHAT?! (spoils)
I also had the reaction that the Orakur looked suspiciously similar to the Vahnatai (just like the Sentinel Stalk is described down to the last detail as if it were a Turret, from another Spiderweb game). That said, the Vahnatai first appeared in 1995 and at the time they looked suspiciously like th...

Even if you kill the guards, you can't go up the stairs. The message you get in explanation is not worth the trouble, I'm afraid.

Re: Eschalon info wiki
That sounds like a lot of effort. It seems to me there are two simpler routes: (1) Somebody collect all the info they think is worthwhile and put it into a text file FAQ, that you can use the search function on. (2) Make a much more prominent link to Randomizer's "Strategy Central" topic w...

Enemy Armor and ToHit Rates
From the game data: Enemy Armor: Enemy armor is between 5 and 37 for most enemies. General Ghorr has 45 and Korren has 65. Eschalon starts with a 50% chance to hit; armor reduces by 2% per point while to-hit adds 3% per point. Therefore, to get a 99% hit rate against any regular enemy, you'll want a...
