Re: Discussion: possible alternatives to the saved game
You are assuming the parents read? Children learn a great deal by example. It is not enough to encourage children to read. Parents must take the lead and be seen reading. The problem with "youngsters" is that there isn't enough encouragement to read on the part of the parents.

Re: Discussion: possible alternatives to the saved game
Most Action-Rpgs designers try to alleviate the save problem inherent in their games by putting some type of teleporters in the games. The purpose of the transporters to allow the player to jump from one location to another with out having to kill the same monsters over and over again because they r...

Re: Discussion: possible alternatives to the saved game
An indie developer could step out of the norm, but he/she must give a compelling reason for potential buyers to step out with him/her. The biggest problem for the developer after designing the game, will be in the implementation of the design. As I stated before great games on paper had been let dow...

Re: Discussion: possible alternatives to the saved game
Christou, What you say or design at the concept level is all well and good. But, concept must eventually hit reality. You can have the best design in the world if the programmers cannot make it work, you have to modify the design. The designer has to work with the programming and artistic teams. The...

Re: Discussion: possible alternatives to the saved game
Christou, You also mention cheating. If I am playing a single player game how am I cheating? How I play the game has no affect on anyone else. Who am I cheating? In a multi-player game my actions can and will affect others. In a single player game it affects no one other than me. If someone wants to...

Re: Discussion: possible alternatives to the saved game
I suppose you mean being able to quit at any moment right? Eventually as said above a constant auto save would guaranty that without much trouble... Now apart branching and cheating, do you see others reasons to have a save command? I have played games with autosave. The problem is if that save bec...

Re: Discussion: possible alternatives to the saved game
No one would ban the game, but it is one that I would not play without an anyplace anytime save feature. Anything that stops me from saving when I need to save is a game breaker for me. The very reason I do not play Japanese style RPGs is because they are so linear and have checkpoints. Action-Rpgs ...

Re: Discussion: possible alternatives to the saved game
Checkpoint saves do not mesh well with real life. Many on this forum just do not have that kind of time. Action CRPGs are notorious for checkpoints, rebirth fountains what ever you want to call it. I played and finished Titan Quest. I really like the game but the save feature was almost a game break...

Re: Discussion: possible alternatives to the saved game
I would prefer save and exit if I could not have the current Book I system. . The save can occur anywhere in the game, but will automatically exit to the main menu. The checkpoint system is used in some console games, but nothing is more frustrating than being midway between checkpoints and you have...

Re: Weapons in Book II - and a suggestion
Theory? I beg to differ. The only way anyone gets better at a skill is to practice it and/or use it in combat. The best at anything only got that way by practicing their craft. No one tries out a new technique in battle that has not been practiced over and over. Fun no, realistic yes! Also no skill ...

Actually, we are not needy. We are starved for good crpgs. So when we see a good one coming we want to help it along as much as possible!

Re: Weapons in Book II - and a suggestion
Is it being suggested that Book II have a skill development system like Morrowind or Oblivion? The more you use a skill in Oblivion the more your skill in that weapon or magic increases from novice to apprentice to journeyman to expert to master on a scale from 0 to 100. 100 being master. Each new l...
