So, wht do you guys think of this, i'm going to try out a thief without any combat skill at start. Ao hide in shadows, move silently, pick locks, mercantile. I don't remember the exact numbers at the moment, but mercantile was 4 or 5 and my plan is to pump some points to it and lock picking, so easy money... And sneaking skills to avoid most fights until i find skillbook(s) and/or trainers.
Any hints for getting to Port Kuudad without much fights? To enter the town, well invisibility potion seems to work or finding the, what was the id paperthing called?
How many places can that be found by the way?
Any advice for true thief type of character?

Re: Any advice for true thief type of character?
Good luck.
Hide in shadows really needs to be over 8 to be effective in avoiding being seen even in town. Pick Locks needs to be over 5 to keep down the number of broken lock picks.
But if you sneak into Port Kuudad you can get training in a weapon skill and go back and start killing things. There are only a few places where you can easily steal things as a beginning character so be careful.
Concentrate on a few skills at the start and take advantage of trainers. This game favors specialization more than Book 1.

I know this one is going to be hard as hell to accomplish. I took this plan a an challenge, after plain further with easier chars.
Yea, i noticed the specialization works, i have level 11 ranger, good with bows(25) and dex was somewhere around 30, consentration, was it 25 or something. Fights are easy, finding/buying good equipment is not. And i don't have lock picking skill yet so bashing/powderkegs are the option... And he's not magick user of any kind. And no alchemy(yet)... Prettu tough character to play excluding the fights.
But this rogue, i thought maybe to start totally without any weaponskill or maybe point or two at bows... Nothing better than a challenging game.
And i havent tried sneaking/escaping fights much yet.

You can get Hide in Shadows to 10 @ level 2 if you save 2 skillpoints on character creation, then pump them all into it on level up. The biggest issue I see is with picklocks. You may end up having to savescum your locks.
I did pretty well testing with a rogue for the first half of the game, but I pumped piercing weapons early on to get the Double-Strike feat. Melee characters are definitely a little more challenging to play with.

Hmm..yea, max points to hide in shadows at start, saved 2 + 3 at level up. that could work. Problem is the hide in shadows/pick locks/weapon skill combo to get somehow working early on. The first third of the game WILL be damn hard with this kind of build anyway.
About the savescumming, i'm trying to avoid it, this far i've only played on hardcore setting, the bonus exp is so nice and the +20 procent item quality... And the immersion holds nicely when there's no savescumming possible etc. But ofcourse it's harder to play, i like challenges but this special true thief type of guy is quite problematic.
Also having cartography early is fun, but knowing somewhat about where to find everything, it's not so necessary at beginning.
Hmmyea, i though putting some points to mercantile early is good to have, makes easier to get better stuff, it could probably compensate for the lack of fighting skill? If there's one point put on light armor and some points to mercantile = better armors early on...
The thing i really like with rogue charactere is to have high dexterity, high armor rating compensates the lack of HPs.
Hey, i forgot, what are the odds to get 105pts at character creation by just rolling? That's what i got for this experimental thief... I'd like to try to get 107 roll but rolling those numbers take a lot of time.
