Pesky HP and MP gain...

Post by Unclever title »

I've got an interesting question for you folks.

I know for a fact that with the right stat balancing one can get a healer that will never gain HP on level up. I'm assuming this can be done with the magick use as well.

Proof.

I also know that you can get a rogue (No picture) who doesn't gain MP upon level up. I'm assuming this can be done with the fighter and maybe the ranger too.

However that Rogue I mentioned I'm trying to find a way to get it so that I neither gain HP nor MP upon leveling up and then increasing my stats around that limitation.

I need to find the precise values to keep stats beneath to prevent HP gain. For the healer all I had to do was keep his strength and endurance under 10, however with the Rogue's stats as follows:

Even if I leave everything as is and just save my skill and attribute points I still gain 2 to my max HP.

My question is where is this 2 coming from? And is there a class that with the right stats, or rather WRONG stats, will not gain max HP or max MP at level up? The only thing here on the list that draws attention is the concentration, but I don't think that's it.

Does the survival skill have anything to do with max HP gaining level to level? My hope is no cause Ideally by the end I'd have a guy with very quick regeneration for a low HP then all I'd have to worry about would be enemies that could kill me in a single hit.

Anyway I'm fielding this question out as (you could tell) I'm looking for a different challenge to overcome (not to mention brag about for the destroyer page) and I don't have an editor and I'm tired of having to fight my way to level 2 which is very difficult on intentionally pathetic base stats. Thanks in advance!

I gotta tell you Unclever T. - I think for most classes, a gain of 2 HP per level is just an irreducible minimum that you will always get not matter how low your stats are (even in your STR & END are both below 10).

Your Healer trick much have something to do with the fact that that particular class (and likely Mage too) are assessed an HP penalty at start-up and leveling.

Rogues are likely the opposite - no HP penalty, but a Mana penalty (which I assume Fighters are also assessed - I'm not sure if Rangers really are assessed that same penalty).

Long story short - some classes are assigned HP penalties, and others are assigned Mana penalties, but I'm guessing there's no character class that's assessed penalties in both.

In other words, I suspect your no HP/no Mana bonus character is probably impossible... :(

I have a feeling you're right. In which case I think I'll continue with good ole Ambrose here but still making sure that he won't gain MORE than 2 HP per level. Thanks.

I'm trying to make the game nontraditional and needlessly much more challenging as I've already beaten the game multiple times including once a healer with the pathetic starting max HP of 23. It was actually kind of fun cause all I ever had to do was avoid being overwhelmed Only the wizard at the top of Shadowmirk could kill me in one hit and I could defeat him with bows from beyond his spell range. Of course I did have crazy buff spells going on.

Unfortunately I can't quite manage both no HP gain and no MP gain.

From my own testing It's impossible (haven't tested everything but I have reason to believe other classes are similar.)

Healer - probably a base MP increase of 1-2 Mp per level (Don't know for sure)

Rogue - Base increase of 2 HP per level

Ranger - Base increase of 2 HP and 1 MP per level

Fighter - Assuming Base increase of 2 HP per level.

Magick User - Assuming base increase of 1-2 MP per level (perhaps also 1 HP)

To eliminate/minimize HP gain your Strength and Endurance both must always be under 10.
To eliminate/minimize MP gain your Intelligence and Perception both must always be under 10.
