As this was posted though i would merge in my alchemy list.
Weapon/armour enchantments add a fixes price to items, so buy cheap thrown weapons (as always at 100% quality) enchant them and sell them.
Can wear rings to give you a total of +4 alchemy skill, read book for +2, get training for +8.
If you are going to do this save up until you have +2 fire/+2 damage (ideally +3) as before this make more money just selling ingredients.
When foraging for ingredients no benefit for having more than 12 skill (+2 book, +8 training, +4 rings) will get 8 ingredients for 9 hours (spins of hourglass) rest.

Was this bugged in earlier versions of the game?
I put my Alchemy up to 7, and quite a few of those listed as 4 or 5 went `pop` when I tried to mix them, DemonOil1 particularly.

Maybe some alchemy recipes were made more difficult with later patches?? I haven't tested any of the lower items on this list but as Drayath notes, Alchemy 20 is not enough to create Invisibility III potions.
