bug, trap, feature or did I overlook something

I am on the Grimmhold maintanence level. I entered a room with three caged Noximanders. The northwest corner has a chest. I open the chest and the Noximanders are released! I kill the Noximanders and get the stuff out of the chest. I am unable to leave the room! The entrance way is now blocked! I see no other way out of the room. Did I miss something?

Do a thorough search of the room now that you have access to some areas you didn't before

check the middle cage!
