Fallout 4
I've put 50+ hours of "research" into this game.
Although it's far from the traditional kind of RPG that we all normally play, I really had fun with it. I didn't quite finish it, but I think I've played the fun out of it.
I give it high marks for fun, but those bugs, random crashes, horrible GUI, and weak storyline all knocked some points off for me.

Re: Fallout 4
If you have these opinions about 4, then it seems you never played 3, which was VASTLY more buggy and crash ridden than this one by far. (not just me, but all, i mean ALL, Of my gamer friends will attest to this)
weak story, yeah i think thats a given, for most bethesda games. but, for open world games, id choose no other publisher(maybe rockstar, if theyd let me play RDR on my goddamn pc) or maybe i should caveat 3d open world games(and for you witcher fans, the gameplay in all b ut 3 just because i havent played it, i can say, SUCKS AND no i wont back that down because the gameplay for 1 nd 2 are horrid, even if the story is the bestest ever)
ive got 100 plus hours into pretty much every game of this type(aside from 4 just because i havent had the time....YET) and i just love them all.
then again i have nearly that much time into eschalon 1 and 2. (each) so .......
what are your specs?
my machine is amonster but this game runs far smoother than FC3, 4 or even skyrim or obllivion. Hell it runs even better than FONV (fps wise)
of ocourse ymmv and opinions are like assholes

The armies joined in a bloody battle on this fine day, then storm clouds broke, and it rained.

Re: Fallout 4
I play this on my Windoze workstation (Bethesda, get with it and support Linux/SteamOS!) so that is...let me look: i7-4930, 32GB RAM, and 2 x GTX 770. FO4 runs fine in SLI mode, but a single GTX 770 can't handle it with any respectable level of detail.blatherbeard wrote:what are your specs?

Re: Fallout 4
Interesting since i run an AMD machine that plays it flawlessly at ultra settings.
16G ram
AMD 7970 3g VC
27" LED monitor(lg)
AMD 8350 black ed 8 core processor (4.1 g touch oc'ed)
Windows 10 64 pro
And funnily enough i cant run FO3, NV or Skyrim at ultra without mods or tweaks to dumb shadows or water down a bit.

Re: Fallout 4
Ah, yes, the Bethesda take on the Fallout franchise.
For those who have played the originals, it's like giving Vin Diesel a glowstick and naming that movie Star Wars.
As shooter/hiking simulators the new Fallout games are actually pretty fun (only New Vegas came close to the originals' spirit)
As RPGs...meh. And to think that games like Witcher 3 or Pillars of Eternity have games like Fallout 4 as competition for GOTY...

Re: Fallout 4
Yeah they've definitely "skyrim"-ed up in 4. More of a FPS/Exploration(and now building) model. Still have quests and rpg lite elements but i can def agree it aint a full blown rpg.
At 49 hours in im still having a good time with the game, even not being much of a builder because, really, the way its done is a nightmare and a half on the PC. I got about 3.5 walls on a house done and i was like screw this, ill find an already built place and move in. he he.
I just downloaded the new crimson package for my drivers and when i boot up the game it def plays better so thankfully AMD is finally getting that they needed to improve on drivers even more than they did when they bought ATi. (and goodbye CCC FINALLY!!!)

The turn-based combat system in Fallout 1&2 are actually quite shit. Not to mention tactics, seriously, real-time micromanaging of every member of a four member crew? Arghh. You just remember it fondly, try playing again and you will see how shitty it really is.
Turning it into FPS, why not?
The storyline though
But then again, this game was made for the ADHD-generation and not for us dinosars.
Edit: Remember, this is the same combat engine that ruined Arcanum and what parts of Lionheart that were not already broken to begin with.
Second edit: On that note, if I had unlimited free time, I should remake Arcanum and maybe even Lionheart as Shadowrun mission-pack add-on.

You shut your dirty mouth! I loved the combat in the original Fallout games.Leezar wrote: The turn-based combat system in Fallout 1&2 are actually quite shit.
Re: Fallout 4
Fallout 1-2 combat was a magnificent invention.
Fallout 3 came and went, I weren't interested. Fallout 4 came, I'm not interested. Basilisk Games new RPG: I'm definitely interested!

Re: Fallout 4
I'm actually replaying the original Fallout right now, and I like it's combat system. The only time it's annoying is if there are lots of non-combatants in the area (like if you are fighting in a populated city), because you have to sit and wait for each and every one of them to take their turn, which really drags things out.
Re: Fallout 4
Try increasing combat speed in the options.
