one of the reasons why I like party based games is that you can always resurrect your characters as long as one of them survives (and has the money/ items to do so).

I think you could do the same in a single player game, though it would be harder to avoid any logical loopholes, i.e. you could say your corpse was found by someone and dragged to a temple. That would call for a free resurrection though, unless the priests are pragmatic enough to loot the gold off your corpse first, then resurrect you.

Personally I like ironman games without reloads whatsoever. I also like the way console RPGs have handled this though; only allowing for saving after a certain portion of the game has been completed. The game can still be tough, but it is more manageable than ironman, yet it doesn't leave the game open to abuse so much.

I've played through games like Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate 2 with a party on ironman, I don't think I would even attempt to do that with a single character.
